So biz people smarter than me: I run a business (S-corp) and I have to ask because it boggles me. Why is Fiat Chrysler America run as an LLC instead of a C-corp?

Not sure the reasoning, but a lot of “importer” companies operate as LLCs. BMW Group’s three brands do (e.g, BMW of North America, LLC), as do a few others.

Might have something to do with it being easier to operate as a DBA if you’re an LLC

Just the right combination of liability and tax benefit, that's all.
